6 tips for easy entertaining this holiday season
You’ve just moved into your new home. Congratulations!
The holiday season is the perfect time to show off your new pad to your friends and family.
If you plan to host Christmas and/or New Year’s Eve celebrations, here are six tips to keep you and your guests happy, and your stunning new property clean and cared for.
1. Minimal decoration with maximum effect
Your new house is simply gorgeous. Why cover it up with bold and brash Christmas decorations? Allow the beauty of your home to shine through by using chic, minimalist festive décor that complements – rather than covers – your property.
2. Make full use of outdoor spaces
Take advantage of the summer weather and use your outdoor entertaining spaces to their full potential. How? Here are a few ideas:
- Dine alfresco, just ensure you have enough outdoor seating for all guests
- Cook outside, everyone loves a Christmas BBQ
- Organise outdoor fun, a bit of backyard cricket, football, even a treasure hunt can keep the young and young at heart happy and entertained
Remember, the more you do outside, the easier clean-up will be.
3. Cook ahead of time
There’s nothing worse than spending your entire Christmas or New Year’s party in the kitchen. A little forward planning will allow you to kick back and relax with friends and family.
Look for recipes that keep well overnight in the fridge. You can marinate most meats and veggies, chop salad ingredients, and prepare most desserts a day in advance. Just remember to take your guests’ dietary restrictions into consideration when planning your menu.
4. Use lighting to create atmosphere
As the sun sets on your get-together, create atmosphere by switching on lighting in and around your home. If you have a swimming pool, pool lights add a magical glow. If not, fairy lights strung around your veranda’s railing will do the trick.
5. Get the music going
What’s a party without a little music? If you decide to entertain outside, a portable Bluetooth speaker is a perfect way to crank up the tunes. Create a Christmas playlist if you’re a fan of the festive classics or keep things neutral. You are the DJ.
6. Keep cleaning products handy
If there are children or pets involved at your holiday party, we highly recommend keeping things like paper towels and all-purpose spray handy. If a drink is spilt or ice-cream dropped, you have exactly what you need on-hand to remedy the situation.
Most importantly, enjoy yourself
Preparing ahead will ensure a stress-free day with friends and family. So, go ahead – enjoy your first Christmas and New Year in your new home!
