Did you know all Achieve Homes in NSW and ACT are built with steel frames as standard? While timber has traditionally been used for house framing, we believe there are myriad benefits to using steel frames – from durability to sustainability and fire resistance.

We’re passionate about creating the best homes possible for our customers that are built to last. This is why we’ve partnered with AusSteel, creator of the Ultimate Steel Building System, to bring our projects to life using TRUECORE® steel frames.

Read on to discover why we think this is the best of the best.

Why choose steel?

It goes without saying that steel is tough, but its benefits extend way beyond physical strength.

  • It’s durable and structurally superior: Unlike untreated timber, steel is wind and water resistant, providing a sturdy base for your home.
  • It’s fire resistant: Steel can withstand much higher temperatures than timber and is non-combustible, reducing the risk of fire damage to your home. Unlike timber, it won’t release smoke or carbon dioxide under flames. This is especially important if you are building in an area prone to bushfire.
  • It gives termite protection: Termites can prove a problem for timber frames and cause expensive damage, but these little pests are stopped in their tracks when you use steel.
  • It’s recyclable: Steel is an environmentally-friendly choice as it is fully recyclable. Timber frames can sometimes need treating with harsh chemicals against pests but there’s no need for that with steel. Plus, typically around 50 trees need to be felled to provide the frame for a single home.
  • There’s less shrinkage: Steel allows for less movement than timber, meaning the frames won’t buckle or warp, maintaining the original lines of your house.

What are the benefits of TRUECORE® steel?

TRUECORE® steel is crafted from five layers, including a steel base, a metallic coating to prevent erosion and a chip-resistant top coat.

It has undergone rigorous testing both in real conditions and in a laboratory to withstand the extreme Australian weather, from tropical heat to dust, rain and hail – you name it. This provides reassurance of exactly how the material will perform on your home, offering protection when you need it the most. TRUECORE® steel can also be used as part of a compliant system in bushfire-prone areas.

Its durability and resilience makes TRUECORE® sheeting long-lasting and sustainable. Plus, Thermatech solar reflective technology deflects more of the sun’s heat, meaning lower air conditioning costs and reduced heat stress on the roof. There’s nothing we love more than a home than looks good and is low maintenance: you can simply clean TRUECORE® steel down with water in areas where rain cannot reach.
